Most interfaces today are built around small and simple search boxes that invite the user to search, but do not prepare him or her for the complex and elaborate results pages that appear. While information volumes are increasing and search technology is improving, the postfiltering pattern seems to stay and creates a major context shift as the user goes from entering query words to digesting the results page.
The presentation will give a brief discussion of postfiltering, state some of the main problems with results pages today, and offer thoughts and ideas on how to improve the user experience by creating a gradual process from query word to result item.
